About The Department

The Department of Animal Science primarily aims at producing graduates who are competent in animal science, responsive to industry needs and with ability to integrate computer technology in the science and art of livestock production. To achieve this, the departmental emphasizes quality research to generate knowledge that informs graduate training. Consequently the curricula for the various programmes are characterized by dynamic content. The graduates of the Department are trained to gain competencies in practical aspects of the four key pillars of animal production namely animal health; animal nutrition; animal breeding and animal production systems as well as entrepreneurial skills to enable them create jobs as well as fit well in the job market. Besides, the curriculum prepares the graduates for further academic development and careers in teaching, research and extension.

The department is growing to be a reference centre for animal breeding, nutrition and health in the region to offer consultancy and prompt advisory services to the livestock industry players
