For more than 10 years (1977-1988) served variously as Research Officer, Senior Research Officer and Principal Research Officer with the Coffee Research Foundation, Ruiru, Kenya; with other colleagues developing the Coffee berry disease and rust resistant Coffea arabica cultivar Ruiru 11. As Head of the Coffee Breeding Project (1983-1988) executed the Hybrid Seed Production Program for Ruiru 11 and the National On-Farm trials leading to rapid adoption of Ruiru 11. In this work, served as lead Scientist for the rust resistance selection program and the innovative hybrid seed production program documented in 12 Annual Progress reports, 6 international/regional symposia proceedings and 8 publications in reputable peer reviewed journals as main author. Between 1989-1994 employed as Associate Research Officer with ICRAF,coordinated the Western Kenya Field work of the German – BMZ funded Multipurpose Tree Improvement Program. As lead Scientist for the reproductive biology and seed systems research component was commended during the Executive Management and Programme Review ( EMPR) of ICRAF by the TAC of the CGIAR in 1993. This work is documented in 4 Annual reports, 2 international symposia proceedings and 3 publications in peer reviewed international journals in addition to a doctoral thesis. Simultaneously was Resource person for the AFRENA NETWORK Regional Training Course in Multipurpose Tree Improvement. Since 1994 served variously as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and currently as Associate Professor and currently as Professor of Plant Breeding as well as serves as Director of International Relations Interlink at
