Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management (with IT)

About the Programme 

  • In the first and second years, the programme provides students with a foundation of general agriculture, mathematics, economics, management, entrepreneurship, and the legal and policy framework relating to Agribusiness. 
  • In subsequent years students delve deeper into specific agri-enterprise and management related subjects. In the fourth (final) year, individual (or groups of) students develop research proposals and implement projects on topics of their choice as a requirement for successful completion of the course. 
  • Besides nurturing innovation and creativity in this way, the programme also allows students to combine theory and practice. Furthermore, students will undertake field or industrial attachment after completing the fourth year to gain practical experience and linkage into the job market.

Programme Requirement

Admission Requirements

1. Applicants for admission into the degree programme should meet the minimum University entrance  requirement of either a mean grade of C+ and above in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination, or 2 Principal passes and 1 Subsidiary in East African Advanced Certificate Examination/ Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (EACE/ KACE), and other equivalent. Those with grade C plain must have a Diploma in a relevant field.

2. In addition, the candidate must have at least C+ in Mathematics and C+ in Biology or C in Agriculture/Business studies (including Economics, Accounting, and Commerce) in KCSE examinations.

A holder of a diploma with credit or above in Management, Farm management or other discipline from a college or University recognized by Maseno University Senate.

Duration of the Programme

The duration of the program shall normally be four (4) academic years.

Teaching methods in all units shall include lectures, field trips, seminars, tutorials, discussions, and practical.

 

Degree Structure

The program offers courses core/ required courses in agriculture, business, management, and entrepreneurship plus common IT courses comprising one third of the degree subjects required by the Commission for University Education and Maseno University Senate.
